Who Is Our Neighbor?
This morning, several hundred thousand immigrants woke up here in Memphis. Realizing that will not significantly change by tomorrow, what is the best thing for our city today?
Multi-National Ministries believes that no matter what the outcome of the immigration issues might be, the best thing for Shelby County is for the refugee and immigrant families (as well as all families) who are living here to be well-educated, honest, and contributing members of our community. In that way, all of our lives will be enriched.
So, what should our response be to the refugees and immigrants who are now living and working and shopping next to us?
Who is our neighbor? With the thousands of refugees and immigrants now living in Memphis this can be a challenging question.
Probably if you asked a dozen different people you would get a dozen different answers. But no matter what conflicting political opinions there may be, maybe our ultimate answer should embody Jesus’ response to that question: Love them as much as we love ourselves.
It is possible…even reasonable…to have differing opinions regarding immigration and yet still live out God’s desire to love and show kindness to whoever might be our neighbor.
For over 27 years, Multi-National Ministries has been dedicated to this - to sharing God’s loving kindness with refugee and immigrant families right here in Memphis.
